You can delete your Atlas account at any time. Deletion is permanent and immediate: your profile, stories, photos, GPS tracks, and social connections are removed from our systems, and the operation cannot be undone.

Delete from the app

The fastest way to delete your account is from inside the mobile app:

  1. Open Atlas on your phone.
  2. Go to Settings (the gear icon in the top-right of your profile).
  3. Scroll to the Account section.
  4. Tap Delete account.
  5. Confirm the destructive warning, then type DELETE exactly when prompted.

You'll be signed out immediately and your account will be gone.

What gets deleted

Deleting your account removes, in a single database transaction:

  • Your profile (name, email, photo, bio, settings)
  • All stories, chapters, and captions you authored
  • All photos and videos in your media library
  • All GPS tracks and location points you recorded
  • All map markers you placed
  • Your social graph — follows, friends, pending requests, and blocks in both directions
  • Your saved stories and folders
  • Your notification history and preferences
  • Any pending reports you filed and reports filed against you
  • Your Strava connection, if any
  • All authentication sessions and OAuth tokens (see below)

The original files stored in our object storage — profile photo, uploaded photos and videos, generated thumbnails — are removed on a best-effort basis in the same request. Any storage object that fails to delete (e.g. a transient S3 outage) is tracked in an ops log and cleaned up by a follow-up job. It is never served back to any user.

What we may retain

A few narrow categories of data can outlive the deletion, all governed by our Privacy Policy:

  • Security and abuse records. If you were banned for violating our Community Guidelines — particularly for severe categories like violence or child safety — we may retain a minimal record (email hash, ban reason, date) to prevent circumvention. This record is not associated with any content.
  • Financial and legal records. If we have a legal obligation to retain something (for example, records of a chargeback dispute or a formal legal request), we keep only what the law requires, for only as long as the law requires.
  • Aggregated analytics. Fully anonymized, non-personal data (e.g. daily active user counts) may remain in our analytics systems.
  • Backups. Encrypted database backups roll off on a fixed schedule (currently 35 days). Your data will not be restored to the live system from any backup after deletion.

Sign in with Apple

If you signed up with Apple, we revoke your Apple refresh token as part of deletion — Apple then removes Atlas from your list of connected apps automatically. This is required by Apple's App Store Review Guideline 5.1.1(v).

You can also revoke Atlas manually at any time from Settings → Apple ID → Sign-In & Security → Sign in with Apple on your iPhone. Doing so on its own does not delete your Atlas account — it just stops Sign in with Apple from working. To remove your data, use the in-app deletion above.

Export your data first

Deletion is irreversible, so if you want a copy of your stories, photos, and tracks, request an export before you delete: open Settings → Privacy & Security → Export my data and we'll email you a download link within 24 hours.

If you can't access the app

You can still have your account deleted even if you can't sign in — for example, if you lost the device you signed up with, no longer have access to your email address, or the app is not installable on your current phone. Email us at [email protected] from the address associated with your account (or, if you cannot access that address, from any address that lets you verify ownership — an old photo tagged with your account, the display name and rough sign-up date, or a shared friend on Atlas).

We aim to acknowledge deletion requests within 3 business days and complete them within 30 days. When it's done we'll reply to confirm.
